The new Ipoly bridge between Ipolydamásd and Helemba will be handed over on Friday – Danube Bend Region

The new bridge built between Ipolydamásd and Helemba in the highlands will be handed over on Friday, July 28. The development is of enormous importance for the population living in the settlements on both sides of the Ipoly river, for businesses and for tourism.

As we previously reported, the handover of the bridge was delayed due to the delay in the putting into traffic procedure on the Slovak side, on the Hungarian side the bridge has all the necessary permits and has been ready for handover for several months.

A 540-meter-long access road was built on the Hungarian side and 175-meter long on the Slovak side, and a separate pedestrian crossing was built for the bridge. Vehicles weighing no more than 3.5 tons will be able to travel on it, and the EuroVelo 6 international bicycle route will also pass through the bridge.

100 years ago, 40 bridges ensured the connection between the settlements of Börzsöny and Felvidék. In previous decades, there was also a bridge between Ipolydamásd and Helemba, but over the years it was damaged due to natural influences and became unusable, reports 0627.hu.

In addition to enriching personal, cultural and economic relations, the new Ipoly bridge also contributes to the development of tourism.

The ceremonial press conference prior to the handover of the bridge will be held on July 28, at which Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Őexc. Peter Dovhun, Minister of Economy of Slovakia and Bence Rétvári, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of the Interior, representative of the region.

According to the information of the Ipolydamásd municipality, after the ceremonial event, the road management staff will remove the roadblocks and the bridge will be opened to traffic along with the roads connected to it.

As they say: the press conference is a non-public protocol event, to which the police and TEK will only allow guests with an invitation after prior registration.
