The new corona virus back in 2014?

Many only read the headings and think they know. But some even read an article and still don’t understand it.

So now the claim goes around that the new corona virus SARS-CoV-2 has been known since 2014, as an article of the “Focus” from that time is supposed to be. Two things are shared: either just the article or a screenshot of the article with a comment:

Yes, there was also a new corona virus a few years ago

“Government warns of new deadly Corona virus
And the little stupid citizen panics 6 years later, influenced by the idiots of politics and business

Read correctly … SO important!

If you read both the Focus article and the shared article on the right in the picture, you will have noticed a little something:

“Risk analysis for” Mers-CoV “

The MERS virus

The virus that was discovered in 2012 and spread from 2013 belongs to the family the corona viruses, i.e. the same virus family to which SARS and SARS-CoV-2 belong. Just as SARS-CoV-2 is today called “the (or the) new coronavirus”, so back then it was often written “the (or the) new coronavirus” because most people cannot remember the scientific name of the virus.

Conclusion

Corona viruses are not new, but have been known since the 1960s. In 2014, the Focus simply reported on what was then the “new corona virus” called MERS-CoV.
