The Netherlands sends military plane to Kabul for the evacuation of interpreters and personnel | Inland

This is reported by the Ministry of Defense. A spokesperson cannot say when the plane will depart or where it will land for security reasons. It is also not known whether all the embassy personnel will fly back with them, or whether a few will remain behind to continue the work.

Defense is sending the plane, because it is getting more and more difficult to get commercial flights from Afghanistan. The Dutch embassy has already been moved to a location near the airport in the night from Saturday to Sunday. All personnel have left the embassy. Due to security reasons, the ministry is reluctant to provide further information about the ongoing evacuation of embassy personnel and interpreters.

Outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced on Saturday that he had had crisis consultations with outgoing ministers Sigrid Kaag (Minister of Foreign Affairs), Ank Bijleveld (Minister of Defence) and Ankie Broekers-Knol (State Secretary for Justice and Security). According to the prime minister, “everything is being put into operation to ensure the safety of our embassy staff and interpreters.”

The Taliban are currently negotiating with the Afghan government to surrender the capital, Kabul. The city is surrounded by Taliban fighters and they are said to have already entered the city.

Defense Minister Bismillah Mohammadi said President Ashraf Ghani has sent a delegation to Doha and negotiations are continuing there. Qatar has long been a mediator in the conflict. Other sources said Taliban members have gone to the presidential palace to discuss the transfer of power. Both parties have indicated that they want to achieve this without incurring any casualties.
