The Netherlands keeps Gouden Koets in a stable (or rather: in the museum) for the time being

The Golden Coach has therefore been under discussion in recent years. More specifically: the side panel, which represents a colonial scene. The nineteenth-century image shows a tribute to the colonies of the time. Half-naked African and Indonesian men kneel before a white woman who represents the Netherlands.

Some consider the scene racist and a glorification of the colonial past. For them, the only right place for the carriage is the museum. For others, the Gouden Koets and the traditional ride on Prinsjesdag are part of tradition and collective memory.
