Apart from emphasis and self-exaltation, in the communiques written by the street there was an attempt to engulf the protest. A larger movement than the neo-fascist group it led the attack on the headquarters of the largest Italian trade union; as fierce as you want, but certainly a minority.

Of the dozen arrested for the assaults and clashes on Saturday, half are unknown to the police for political militancy. Among these there is a man of seventy, one of 58 and one of 54. And there is Biagio Passaro, forty-six year old manager of a chain of pizzerias and leader of «Io apro», in a state of agitation since the first anti-Covid closures. Even on network officers of this group – which has 8,088 members, of which 164 on line at 18.18 yesterday – there were those who exulted: “Rome in full chaos, we have occupied the CGIL”, and a quarter of an hour later: ” Now towards Palazzo Chigi / Montecitorio ».

After the rally in Piazza del Popolo, the demonstrators asked those responsible for public order to go in the procession towards the headquarters of the union. Permission denied, but breaking through the protective cord was not too difficult for a mass of hundreds of people who had a few thousand behind them apparently peaceful; this is how the aggression perhaps planned by the most determined demonstrators took place.

With Castellino and Fiore there was also Luigi Aronica – another of the arrested – nicknamed “Pantera”, 65 years old, raised in the Roman seat of Fuan (the university organization of the MSI), passed to the revolutionary armed groups and returned to political activity after several decades spent in prison. «I was a child and on the walls I wrote ‘Free Panther’. Happy last birthday of the heroes ”, is the public dedication of Castellino when he turned 63.

A neo-fascist community that for a year and a half, with the anti-closure protests, has found the opportunity to celebrate, to aggregate and try to dust off an image that had recently become a bit tarnished.
