Since Monday, April 24, 2023, the Ministry of Water and Forests has been training on Gabon’s national timber traceability system under development and implementation for public officials, economic operators and partners.

It is in collaboration with the coordination unit of the Legality and Traceability Control System for Timber in Gabon (SCLTBG), that the Ministry of Water and Forests aims to train economic operators and various partners in the use of this digital traceability tool. Indeed, it is ” a mechanism put in place in the country to considerably reduce illegal logging and the trade in wood products which constitute a real threat to the increase in tax revenue and the promotion of the “Bois du Gabon” label “, we learn on the site of New Gabon.

The site continues that this training, as indicated by the Ministry of Water and Forests, will allow “the forest, customs and tax administration to have reliable data on the transport of wood products, in real time, from the forest to their destination and thus to extract details at all stages of exploitation“. Gabon’s national timber traceability system meets several requirements. This involves, among other things, controlling national and industrial forest production, reducing wood wastage, fighting corruption and forest crime, and increasing State tax revenue. But above all, it will simplify administrative procedures by reducing, among other things, waiting times at checkpoints, according to the Ministry of Water and Forests.

Note that this training will last for three days. Throughout this training, it will be a question of formulating requests and visualizing on a dynamic map the geographical entities as well as the means involved in the transport of forest products throughout the national territory.
