The National History Museum is waiting for Covid-19 evidence / Article / LSM.lv

The National Museum of History considers things that symbolize the life affected by the coronavirus to be great exhibits of the museum. Therefore, a self-sewn face mask, a photo with empty store shelves or children’s drawings are definitely welcome in the museum.

In 50, 70 or 100 years, even the simplest thing will be a very interesting museum exhibit, which will show how we have managed life and everyday life this spring.

“The Covid-19 crisis period was an unusual and unique time in the history of both our country and Europe, even after 10, 100, 200 years people will study, be interested, watch this time,” said Anita Meinarte, Deputy Director of the Latvian National Museum of History.

Many entrepreneurs and public authorities have responded to the museum’s call for the deposit of some supposedly common, everyday and typical items.

“There is a set that is given to airBaltic passengers, it is a testament to how quickly many of our manufacturers have responded to the requirement and New Rosme is producing protective masks that can be purchased individually by the retailer,” said Meinarte.

“We were very sad that the theater season was being interrupted, that we had been deprived of cinema and theater, but unfortunately safety was more important than anything, and we also had a very strong response from the National Theater and Opera,” said a museum spokeswoman. Posters received in March, April and May on the streets of Riga, information leaflets where volunteers offer help, and the first protective masks and face shields used by supermarket food chains were received.

The museum also invites each of us to be active.

“Maybe there are fewer things about a person, about the situation in the family, how this crisis is overcome.” We might be very interested in some pictures of a student at a computer, for the first time the whole country studied remotely, maybe a student writes a course paper, maybe a lonely place in Latvia has been found, where it is possible to leave with the family and relax without contact with others, ”pointed out Meinarte.

Latvian Television also brought its everyday things from the time of Covid to the museum – there is a large poster that stood both in the editing and directing rooms, where the interviewees come, and in the hallways, there is also a smaller poster reminiscent of the main things – disinfection, distancing.

The museum invites write an e-mail or make a phone call and to deliver the important coronavirus time items to the exposition of the National History Museum in Riga, Brīvības Boulevard, or, by prior contact, also to the museum storage on Pulka Street.
