This Wednesday the mayor of San Francisco, Ignacio García Aresca, presented the project “Bicisenda San Francisco does not stop.” It is the development of a network of exclusive routes for cycling that will connect the main points of the city.

Next week the demarcation of the bike paths will begin. This task includes the demarcation of existing roads and the construction of new routes for the use of bicycles, adding a total area of approximately 65 kilometers.

In the announcement García Aresca was accompanied by the Secretaries of Government, Damián Bernarte and of Infrastructure, Néstor Gómez. They were also the president of the Deliberative Council, Gustavo Klein; the councilor, Luciano Stoppani, the director of Sports, Juan Iturburu, and the vice president of the Association of Physical Education Professionals (APEF) of San Francisco, Javier Castelli. Representatives of intermediate entities of the city were also present.

“We want to thank the support of all the institutions of the city and let them know that without their contributions it would have been impossible to develop this idea. Also thank the people of APEF for their collaboration since this project that arises from the municipality establishes a paradigm shift in the life of our city, ”said Damián Bernarte.

The official stressed that “like any change, it may generate some resistance in terms of its implementation, but this marks an advance in caring for the environment, in a healthy city, in a more health-friendly means of transport, the human being and the environment”.

Javier Castelli said that the project will be carried out in stages, the first being along Calle Alberdi, from Avenida Rosario de Santa Fe to Bulevar 25 de Mayo, and then along Calle Pueyrredón, from Avenida Rosario de Santa Fe to Bulevar 25 de Mayo.

“After that, we will continue to the south of the city until we reach the Normal Schools area and the IPET 50, to end on Avenida Libertador Sur. The idea is to work in stages since we must analyze the appropriation made by the citizens of the project ”, explained Castelli.

Mayor García Aresca, for his part, and after also thanking all those who provided their “valuable contribution” to the advancement of the project, stated: “Many cities were changing their paradigms with the use of bike paths. In San Francisco we have the right characteristics to carry it out, such as the lack of unevenness, and that is why the first thing we did is summon all the institutions since this project should be appropriated by all citizens and not a municipal government.

“We have already made the purchase of the special asphalt paint, both for paving and for paving, we also acquired the cement separators of the bidirectional rails and other elements necessary to start the work. Beyond having the project completed, it continues to be subject to modifications due to different recommendations that may arise, which does not mean that it will be discontinued but that it will continue to advance ”, informed the head of the municipality.

García Aresca also referred to the bicycle racks, which are expected to be installed in a sector of the central parking beaches, adjacent to the docks where motorcycles are parked, and also in the central flowerbed between the IPET 50 and the Normal School , and in the Plaza General Paz, in the case of the southern sector.

Finally, the mayor said that “when the health situation allows it, the municipal Sports Directorate and the APEF will be in charge of lectures in schools on awareness and the explanation of the cyclist manual and the use of the bike path. This is a clear example of what we can do together as a society, this belongs to everyone and means a benefit for all of society ”.
