The Moroccan group Somagec invests in the construction of a new oil jetty


The Moroccan private sector is investing more and more in the Horn of Africa with the launch this Thursday of the construction of an oil terminal with the help of the expertise of the Moroccan group “SOMAGEC”.

Thanks to the expertise of the Moroccan group, Djibouti has launched the construction work of a new oil jetty forming part of a large storage platform for petroleum products and derivatives, located in the new free industrial zone of Damerjog.

Launched by the President of the Republic of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh, this new infrastructure is one of the largest projects undertaken by the Djibouti Port Authority “Djibouti Ports & Free Zones Authorities, DPFZA”.

Comprised of three development and construction phases of 5 years each, the port includes oil storage terminals, a crude oil refinery, an LNG terminal, ship repair and dry docks as well as power plants. electric and a park of building materials.

The launching ceremony of this work was marked by the presence of the President of SOMAGEC, Roger Sahyoun (photo), as well as the Prime Minister, the President of the Assembly, several members of the government, as well as the President of DPFZA, Aboubaker Omar Hadi.

The Ambassador of Morocco in Ethiopia and Djibouti, Nezha Alaoui M’Hammdi, welcomed, on this occasion, the conclusion of this partnership with the Moroccan group SOMAGEC and the confidence placed by the Djiboutian authorities in the expertise Moroccan in an area as strategic for Djibouti as maritime infrastructure.

In this sense, the Moroccan diplomat reiterated Morocco’s constant commitment to South-South cooperation and the increased interest of the Moroccan private sector to invest in African countries including Djibouti, while recalling the excellence of relations bilateral between Morocco and this sister country.

The oil terminal consists of an offshore jetty connected to a storage area. According to the designers, this 3 km long jetty provides access to vehicles and pipeline services. It is also designed to accommodate vessels from 5,000 to 100,000 DWT and ships from 2,000 to 30,000 DWT.
