An important communication operation, in a context where road safety figures in Corsica continue to worry the authorities. “29 people were killed on the island’s roads in the first six months of this year alone”, announces the prefect. Both departments are affected. In Corse-du-Sud, 16 people died, “this corresponds to 3 more deaths than in the whole of 2021, which already had 13 deaths”, he says. 8 people died in 2020, 9 in 2019. In Haute-Corse, 13 people died on the roads during the first six months of 2022, while there were 16 deaths over the whole year in 2021, 9 in 2020, 21 in 2019.
The number of accidents is also on the rise. “In 2022, there were 131 accidents over the first six months of the year compared to 93 over the same period in 2021, 81 in 2020, 116 in 2019”, counts the prefect. With a striking fact, in addition to the overrepresentation of bikers, the youth of the victims. “Since the beginning of the year throughout Corsica, 12 killed were under 25 years old, 20 were under 40 years old, out of a total of 29 people who died”recalls Amaury de Saint-Quentin.
