The Minister of Fisheries is urgently convening a press conference on the Ocean Space Center

The press conference will take place on Monday at 13.15.

Minister of Fisheries and Marine Affairs Bjørnar Skjæran is present, together with county mayor of Trøndelag Tore O. Sandvik (Labor Party), Rector Anne Borg at NTNU, CEO Alexandra Bech Gjørv in Sintef and group leader for Labor in Trondheim City Council Roar Aas.

The Ocean Space Center, which has had a cost framework of NOK 8.2 billion, is intended to be a pioneering research center for ocean space technology. The government has proposed postponing the giant project due to uncertainty about the costs of the project, among other things due to increased material costs.

Labor leaders in Trøndelag have been furious at their own government after the proposal, and also LO and NHO have come up with juicy criticism.

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has been clear that the project will be realized, and he has said that the government will be happy with the criticism that is coming.

– But at the same time we have said that large public construction projects have shown a common feature in recent years. They crack, become too expensive, and there are cost control challenges. Then it is often wise to take a foot in the ground and review it, he maintained to NTB just over a month ago.
