The mayor of New York assures that the city “cannot admit more” migrants and demands that Biden take action

The mayor of New York, the Democrat Eric Adams, has warned that the city is not in a position to receive more migrants and has demanded that the president of the United States, Joe Biden, take measures aimed at “addressing this problem in a real way”.

Adams has traveled to the city of El Paso (Texas), on the border between the United States and Mexico, from where he has denounced the complex situation faced by large American metropolises such as New York itself, Houston, Los Angeles or Washington, among others. , picks up CBS.

“Our cities are being undermined. And we don’t deserve this (…) Migrants don’t deserve this. And the people who live in these cities don’t deserve it either,” lamented Adams, who has demanded from the federal authorities ” address this problem in a real way.”

“This is a crisis at the national level and we need a national solution. Mayors like Oscar Leeser (El Paso councilor) and I are on the front line and we need federal support,” Adams remarked on his official Twitter profile, where he has shared images of his visit to the border city.

The city of El Paso has seen in recent months how the flow of migrants from Cuba, Nicaragua or Venezuela, among other nations, has intensified, and for which it has had to prepare public buildings to improvisely house all these people .

New York, for its part, has received in recent months tens of thousands of migrants who have entered the country through the southern border. The governor of Texas, Republican Greg Abbott, has gone so far as to order the transfer of migrants to cities led by Democrats as a method of protest against Biden’s policies.

Adams already warned last year that New York could face complications at the fiscal and welfare level to help migrants who come to the city. According to the aforementioned US chain, New York has offered shelter and food to some 40,000 migrants.

This situation has resulted in the mayor of New York having even warned the governor of the state of the same name, Kathy Hochul, also a Democrat, that the city is “on the brink of the abyss” and at a “breaking point”, for which she presented a request for “emergency mutual aid to the state of New York.”

However, Adams is aware that any type of immigration reform will have to go through the Senate and the Republican-controlled House of Representatives before it can be ratified by President Biden.
