The Maternal Hospital of A Coruña will open the first 30 parking spaces next week | Radio Coruña

The construction works of a new parking on the left margin of the Maternal and Child Hospital of A Coruña progress at a good pace according to the Regional Ministry of Infrastructure, Ethel Vázquez, who this morning supervised all the works accompanied by the Manager of the Sanitary Area of A Coruña and Cee, Luis Green.

The works will involve the creation of a car park with 53 places for vehicles in an area that until now served as an area to leave the car but without parking spaces, among rubble, earth and brush.

According to Ethel Vázquez, about thirty will be available next week. “The forecasts that we manage in the short term are that next week, once the concreting is done, we will have about 30 spaces to improve parking and mobility in the Maternal and Child,” said the minister.

The councilor pointed out that the agglomerate spreading works are carried out in night schedule to minimize inconvenience to hospital professionals and users.

About 200,000 euros will be invested in this infrastructure, in three weeks the sidewalks and other improvements will be completed on the perimeter of the Teresa Herrera Hospital. The work will be completely finished in August.

The council had an impact on the repercussions of these actions, “which involve small investments, but are extremely important for road safety, accessibility and functionality of these hospitals.” Vázquez Mourelle reported that the clearing and sanitation of the plot has already been carried out, and at the moment the parking areas and pedestrian traffic are being delimited with a curb.

These works, he added, contribute and add “to that great commitment that the Xunta has been making since 2009 for public health, which translates into continuous care improvements, new health centers, better health equipment and improvement in hospitals.”

The project is part of a larger plan of improvement of accessibility in hospital areas in the province of A Coruña worth one million euros.

The Xunta de Galicia reactivated in mid-May the contracting of improvement works in the accesses to the hospital facilities of A Coruña after the suspension of administrative procedures in these months as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
