The Mark Twain Center for Transatlantic Relations – SWR2 opens in Heidelberg

After several years of preparation, the Mark Twain Center for Transatlantic Relations officially opens in Heidelberg on 22 May. The former American barracks of Heidelberg, the “Campbell Barracks”, are about 200 years of German-American relations: from emigration to world wars, to US occupation, to attacks by the RAF and to personal relations between Americans and Germans in the “Little Germany ”Heidelberg.

After the first Mark Twain exhibition two years ago, the entire museum of the “Mark Twain Center for Transatlantic Relations” now opens with the permanent exhibition “Join the Story – 200 Years of Transatlantic Perspectives”, costing about 2.45 million. of Euro.

The museum is housed in the former European headquarters of the US Army south of Heidelberg, a previously inaccessible military building. From 1945 to 2013, the house served as the headquarters of the US Army Commander-in-Chief in Europe.
