The main problem of OLED TVs will be solved soon – ᐉ News from Fakti.bg – Technology

Displays made with organic LED (OLED) technology offer significant advantages over liquid crystal displays (LCD). Positioned as a new generation of OLED displays, the matrices have a wide color gamut and faster response speed than LCD displays. The OLED matrix uses LED elements with limited life to increase the brightness. As a result, however, OLED screens “burn out” faster over time: the panel becomes darker and residual images appear even when the screen is turned off.

In the near future, the South Korean companies Samsung and LG may solve this major problem of OLED technology. this will happen as the two companies develop in parallel the Two-Stack Tandem technology, which doubles the thickness of the light-emitting layer and increases the brightness of the screen. The new technology also increases the number of light-emitting layers to two, consisting of red (R), green (G) and blue (B) elements. As a result, the life of OLED displays will be extended. The technology is suitable for devices that are often used in open areas with bright lighting and will initially be used primarily in the screens of smartphones and tablets, and later on TVs.

Samsung is believed to be developing an OLED display with a maximum brightness of 1700 nits for the Galaxy S22. According to an insider, the company has completed the development of a display “over 1500 nits” for Samsung Electronics. LG’s competitors are already using Two-Stack Tandem technology for production of OLED displays for cars. According to a company representative, LG has the know-how to mass-produce OLED TVs with large diagonals and using the new technology of the double light-emitting layer.

Samsung Display is also working on quantum dot technology (QD-OLED) to increase the brightness of OLED matrices, which uses only blue backlight elements, unlike the RGB elements in the standard OLED panel.
