The Lithuanian artist Jurģ Tarabildas’ Recycled Colors exhibition will be showcased in the gallery LOOK!

Exhibition of Jurģas Tarabildas, a Lithuanian artist of the new generation Recycled Colors invites us to view his works as a constantly renewing source of energy and explores how recycling can make both ecological and aesthetic sense. The works of the exhibition are made from the leftover paint stocks, which were created within the framework of the last couple of years. The artist himself asks not to call them paintings, adding that the only visible evidence of the artist’s presence is the application of paint with a brush.

Art critic Rosana Lukauskaite, thinking about Tarabild’s latest work, emphasizes that the question arises, are works similar to color palettes just inverted reflections of a work of art? Can they become art objects in themselves, with their own meaning and value? This concept of ambiguity creates an interaction between the artwork and the viewer, emphasizing the subjectivity and diversity of art.

An artist who chooses to question our own fantasy and attitude towards the superiority of art gives a new meaning to the leftover colors, and what initially seemed like a simple color experiment becomes a philosophical metaphor for the limits and possibilities of art. It allows us to explore the nature of art, the process of creating a work of art, and the value of the artistic experience.

Jurģis Tarabilda (1992) graduated from the Sculpture Department of the Vilnius Art Academy. Received the audience award in 2017 Baltic Young Painter Prize in the competition and was nominated at the art fair ArtVilnius 2020 as the audience’s favorite artist. The works of Jurģ Tarbildas are included in the collections of the Lithuanian MO Art Museum, as well as in private collections in Latvia, Lithuania, Germany, USA, Estonia, Israel and Great Britain. He has held six solo exhibitions and is currently represented by Meno Niš Gallery, has participated in such international art fairs as Positions Berlin, Vienna Contemporary, ArtVilnius and elsewhere.

This is the artist’s second exhibition at the gallery LOOK!

The exhibition will be on display from March 30 to April 25 in the LOOK gallery! (62A Gertrude Street).
