The Limit of Human Life: Researchers Find that Humans Can Live up to 150 Years

Jakarta

Many people find out the recipe for longevity to stay healthy in old age. But actually how old can humans live?

Research in 2021 found that the limit of human life is 150 years. At this point, the study says, the body can no longer repair itself after an illness.

In the study, published in the journal Nature Communication, researchers analyzed medical data from hundreds of thousands of volunteers, condensing it into a single measure of aging, an indicator of dynamic organismal status.

With this data, scientists use technology to create computer models called dynamic organism state indicators, or DOSI, for each individual.

“This makes people think that the maximum lifespan has been reached,” said David McCarthy, an assistant professor of risk management and insurance at the University of Georgia as quoted by Live Science.

Their findings show that a progressive loss of the human body’s physiological resilience or ability to recover from illness and other stressors reaches a tipping point, resulting in a “fundamental or absolute limit to human lifespan” of around 150 years.

The longest-lived and oldest person in recorded history is Jeanne Calment, who died at the age of 122. Since Calment’s death in 1997, the record for oldest living person has been held by people between the ages of 110 and 120 – and has not been moved up over time.
