Are you a movie fan? That’s great for you: from April 2 to 7, the return of the Lille European Film Festival. For this 37th edition a bit special, the event which aims to promote young talents in short and feature films is going digital. Believe us, it’s a cultural event not to be missed !

The European Film Festival, already 36 years of existence!
Yes, it is in Lille that the European Film Festival, which has become over the years, the third most important short film festival in France (and the second in terms of visibility on social networks). The objective of this cultural event: democratize the short film and highlight young cinema talents, but also facilitate the meeting between authors, directors, actors and spectators.
“Since 1985, the Festival has been a week of screening European short films, conferences and events bringing together young and old around cinema! “
For a week, this festival offers many events and screenings, including several competitions open to the public: the Official competition, the short film competition according to different themes; the Other Looks Competition, on very specific themes: animation, documentary, experimental and offbeat; and the Scenario competition, to highlight young screenwriters. Each year, the festival hosts a jury composed of renowned actors, directors and film critics !
In addition to these competitions, many “off events” are organized: conferences, meetings, cinema sessions, thematic evenings, etc.
A 2021 hybrid edition
Good news: despite the pandemic, the Lille European Film Festival will be there this year! How? ‘Or’ What ? By offering a fully online programming. All screenings, competitions, conferences, and other events will be pre-registered. Once your ticket has been purchased, you will be able to attend the entire program on the Festival website.
“The Festival is going digital but remains faithful to its ambitions: to promote short films and the wealth of European creations. This year, with 66 selected works and 17 countries represented, the short format has not finished surprising and amazed you. “
On the program for this special year
This year again, the festival programming is rich and intense! All sessions will be available online throughout the week:
- The Official competition divides the short films in competition into five screenings: “Alone against all”, “Shameless”, “Beyond Men”, “The Fall of the Giants”, “I came to tell you that I am going”. The jury for this first competition will be composed of Marilou Berry, Maxime Musqua, Laurent Bateau, Manon Azem, and Léo Soesanto.
- The Other Looks Competition is divided into four sessions: documentary, animation, offbeat and experimental. The jury will be chaired by Nicolas Zappi and composed of three passionate students: Manon Montrouge, Mattéo Dugast, and Victor Simoni.
- For the script contest, 400 scripts were received and read this year. The six finalist projects will be presented to the competition jury during the Festival.
- The guest of honor of this edition is Joeystarr. This year, no conference, but a virtual meeting with the rapper, producer and actor …
- Because the Festival is not only for adults, a few screenings are organized especially for the youngest (but not only): “Court de Récré” and “Films & Compagnie”.
- The traditional film market will take place this year on Wednesday April 7, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., also online.
- Many more off and online events : “Starry Night”, “Window on the Street”, “Conference – Cinema: Reflection of the Contemporary World? “,” Night of Fear “,” Flashback “,” Getting laid “,” Hors Norms “…
Tickets and prices
The Ticketing of this new edition has opened since the beginning of March. You can therefore already reserve your places for the various events and sessions. April 2-7, 2021. The entire festival will take place online on the festival website. More information will be given to you following your purchase.
Here are the prices:
- The session: 3.5 €
- The pass to have access to all the sessions of the Competitions (Official and Other Looks): 12 €.
- “Night of fear” and “Recreation court”: € 4 (the ticket office for these two events is not yet open)
