The light came from the bench gold

In difficulty, Grenoble Foot 38 nevertheless returned with three points from Marcel-Picot, confirming that if the way sometimes left something to be desired for a few weeks, the results remained excellent. The richness and depth of the Alpine workforce are no strangers to this success. Against Nancy, the solution has once again come from the bench.

Jean-Louis Garcia wins the first round

We have read and heard a lot, including in the mouth of Philippe Hinschberger, that the Grenoblois had been very bad for 45 minutes (see a little more) this Saturday. That is true.
It seemed to us, on the other hand, which was less noted, that it had been linked as much to the performance of Nancy as to a poor performance of the partners of Salles.
Without being flamboyant, with moreover very few real opportunities in its favor, the ASNL, by a constant high pressing, considerably hampered the Grenoble recovery, by cutting short circuits and forcing a longer game more complicated, which led to a lot of loss of bullets and interceptions.
However, Perez has often integrated himself into his defense, facing the game. The objective: to promote the recovery in short play and remove the opposing block with off-center players very … off-center (even if ultimately Diallo and Semedo often walked where a Henen has hardly ever left his lane after entering) and therefore more spaces in the heart of the game. With the exception of a notable ill-concluded streak, Grenoble has yet failed to set up great thing and to get out of the opposing pressure. Florian Michel has only touched 20 balls in 45 minutes.
In this first period, the GF38 only managed to be dangerous on stopped phases, which had moreover not been so interesting (on the amount of situations generated) for a little while.

Second set and great tie-break for Philippe Hinschberger

Except that Grenoble has this season of options to change everything (or almost) via a very interesting bench depth, especially on the offensive plan, and especially players who are very involved even when they are not starting. This last point makes all the difference.
In front it was still missing this Saturday Achille Anani and Yoric Ravet. Excuse the little. This did not prevent Hinsch ‘from pulling out of his hat two elements that totally tipped the scales: Jessy Benet and David Henen.

The technician also made two changes upon returning from the locker room (even if for Nestor it was because of a small physical discomfort).
Jessy Benet was decisive with his penalty and his free kick for Djitté. But above all, he brought options to the heart of the game with an ability to play in one touch, to bring more rhythm. In 45 minutes, he touched twice as many balls (46) as Flomich. Really not the same weight on the team’s play.
Grenoble quickly found more time to lag, of course also benefiting from a slack from the Nancéens who could not provide the same pressing over 90 minutes. On the other hand, the GF38 continued to fish in the last gesture, with too many bad choices and waste. On the other hand, we appreciated the “patience” which seemed more important to us than in certain matches where Grenoble was behind. At 2-0 the match would have been folded and we saw Isérois who never panicked. A real good point in our eyes.
Henen did not necessarily touch a lot of the ball but he was very “clean” in everything he did (100% successful passes for example), sticking to his line … except to make a marvel of appeal to cause the penalty. A smart race, a metered ball in free space: the simplest things are sometimes the most difficult to achieve. On this occasion, the whole was perfect.

There remains this goal of victory … Here too the technical achievement is successful, from the free kick to the acrobatic extension of Djitté (hat sir, after 90 minutes of effort). But it is the mental strength of this team that we will, again, meet. This Saturday, we almost expected so much the Grenoblois are showing exceptional resilience this season.

We titled at the end of the match that this victory was unexpected. Well we had it all wrong. Because if there is one thing that is not lacking in this GF38, symbolized by its treasures coming out of the bench, it is Hope.
