The legendary group “The Cure” will perform in Latvia next year

On October 6, the cult group “The Cure” will perform at the Arena Riga with the first and so far the only concert in the Baltic States, informs “L Tips Agency”.

The concert of at least two hours will feature the best repertoire of “The Cure”, as well as a song from the promised new album. The special guests of the concert are the Scottish Postbank Association “The Twilight Sad”.

It is no exaggeration to say that for more than 40 years, the charismatic Robert Smith-led formation has become a source of enthusiasm, inspiration, imitation, encouragement or even consolation for generations of listeners, musicians, artists, designers and other creative people.

Lullaby, Friday I’m in Love, Just Like Heaven, Lovesong, Pictures Of You, Close To Me, In Between Days, Boys Don’t Cry, Let’s Go To Bed, A Strange Day, The Lovecats and a host of other compositions are no stranger to anyone known to the band.

For thousands of people around the world, Robert Smith is much more than a branded puffy hairpin, colored eyes and red lips.

Aware of the deep, even all-encompassing musical and cultural significance of The Cure, this will not be a one-day concert, but a set of events starting in the week of October 3rd.

The Cure (originally Easy Cure) in Crawley, England, was started by Robert Smith in 1976 with his schoolmates. The debut album “Three Imaginary Boys” was released as “The Cure” in 1979, and was immediately positively rated by critics, categorizing the band in the direction of the postbank and the new wave. With the next album, Seventeen Seconds, the guys gradually turned to a new, gloomier style, which, along with Smith’s stage image, strongly influenced the emerging Gothic rock genre, as well as the entire subculture that eventually developed around the genre.

Since then, “The Cure” is considered one of the pioneers and brightest representatives of the Gothic rock. Robert Smith, however, has always recovered from the desire to rank the group in a certain category, commenting in a 2006 interview: We are not classifiable. We may have been part of the post-bank when we started, but overall it’s not possible – I just play Cure music, no matter what that means. ”

Although generally considered to be the creator of dark, gloomy and text-wise music, the wider pop field The Cure is also known for a number of more upbeat songs that began with Let’s Go To Bed and continued with Inbetween Days, Close To Me ”,“ Just Like Heaven ”,“ Lovesong ”and“ Friday I’m in Love ”.-

Disintegration became the most commercially successful album of The Cure (1989), and during the career the band has released 13 studios, several concert and favorite albums, more than 40 singles and a total of more than 30 million records.

The Cure account also includes several concert films, as well as the use of their compositions in motion pictures. It’s no secret that Robert Smith’s figure was borrowed from one of the most iconic films by director Tim Burton, Edward Scorpion. After the film was released, Smith collaborated musically with Burton on two other films.

The Cure has received a number of prestigious musical awards, including the Brit Award, the MTV Music Video Award, the Ivor Novello Award and cotus.

In 2019, The Cure was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Smashing Pumpkins, Interpol, Jane’s Addiction, Nine Inch Nails, AFI, 30 Seconds To Mars, The Killers, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Deftones ”,“ Blink 182 ”are just some of the groups whose representatives do not hide one or another influence of“ The Cure ”or Robert Smith.
