The Latvian-Indian co-production film “Manni” / Article is released on domestic screens

The premiere of the Latvian-Indian co-production film “Manni” at the cinema “Splendid Palace” gathered a team of international film producers, friends and supporters. The screenplay was written and the main character is played by Indian actress and producer Sonala Segala, who was introduced to Latvian director Dace Pūce while studying at a film school in New York.

“The director doesn’t just have to love this scenario, but he has to know every detail. It has to taste and live there. It’s very important. Then I tried to fall in love with this script for a month and do my best to improve it as much as possible,” says Dace Owl.

At the center of the story of the film “Manni” is an Indian writer who comes to Latvia to write an autobiographical novel, but is captured in an artificial intelligence relationship.

“The idea came from noticing how obsessed everyone was with their phones. We are a generation that, if left for two minutes, immediately starts using our phones. And plus how much private information is on our phones. So that was one of those questions, “What has the phone done to you? You’re obsessed with your phone, but what if your phone is obsessed with you?” Sonala Segala talks about the inspiration of her work.

The film was shot entirely in Latvia, and also features local actors Dārta Daneviča and Jurijs Djakonovs. They portray one image in the film – an Indian lover.

“I am pleasantly surprised. Because it seemed to me that the mentality – Indian, Latvian, many things – did not know whether it would go together,” admits Yuri Djakonov on the evening of the premiere. Darta Danevich also does not hide: “I am also pleasantly surprised, because I was very worried about my role, about its specifics. Something very unusual for me. I did not know how it would be assembled. Finally I have a full evening of relief. Everything is fine. “

The Indian and Latvian psychological science fiction thriller “Manni” has already received 11 international awards in the USA, India and Great Britain. This film will be shown in Latvian cinemas only in a few screenings.
