More than 3,000 KLM pilots will stop their work for an hour on Monday, reports the VNV union. The action is a result of difficult collective labor negotiations between the union and the airline.

VNV demands a pay increase of an average of 6 percent per year, while KLM offers 5 percent. The pilots also strive for better working conditions, including more flexibility in the schedule.

Chairman of the pilots’ union, Camiel Verhagen, regrets the expected inconvenience for travelers. “The consultations with KLM are not moving sufficiently,” he says. Verhagen thinks that about fifteen flights will be delayed and indicates that he is open to further discussions with KLM before the strike starts on Monday.

A KLM spokesperson said that the cockpit crew, which must report to Schiphol on Monday between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., will interrupt their work. Crew that are already on their way will continue to work as usual.

KLM regrets the action and emphasizes that the company will continue to make efforts to reach a balanced collective labor agreement. The airline says it will inform passengers as soon as possible about the consequences for their flight.
