New York The plans to build the world’s largest ferris wheel in New York have failed. “After years of planning, the developers of the New York Wheel announce with great disappointment that the dream of building a world-class attraction in Staten Island will unfortunately not come true,” said a statement on Tuesday in the German press Agency in New York.
The Ferris wheel was supposed to be the tallest in the world at around 190 meters and was originally to be rotating in the New York City district of Staten Island as early as 2015 – with a panoramic view of the harbor, the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline.
The developers did not initially name a specific reason for abandoning the plans. Recently, however, the cost of the project had continued to rise, construction had been delayed and was finally halted entirely by legal disputes between various investors.
With the construction project, the developers wanted to upgrade the suburban and quietest of the five New York districts. To this day, many tourists take the free ferry to Staten Island to enjoy the view of the bay, the Statue of Liberty and the metropolis skyline, but then usually drive back to Manhattan immediately.
