The bikers demonstrated again against the compulsory technical control

Several thousand bikers demonstrated this Saturday, April 24, in particular in Amiens and Lille, notably opposing the implementation of a technical control, provided for by a European directive, and calling for a legal framework to be able to ride on modified motorcycles.

In Amiens, the demonstration organized by the French Federation of Angry Bikers (FFMC) of the Somme brought together a few thousand bikers, the organizers counting more than 3,000. Gathered in the park of Hotoie, they marched in the streets of the city before going to a technical center located in Camon.

In the Lille metropolis, 1,500 motorcyclists from the Nord and Pas-de-Calais demonstrated at 2 p.m. from Seclin, according to a police source, responding to a national appeal from the Federation of Bikers of France (FBF) and the French Federation of Angry Bikers (FFMC). They took the A1 to reach Lille city center and the outskirts of the North Prefecture.

In Paris and Strasbourg too, motorcyclists parade.

Reindeer, around thirty FFMC 35 bikers made a trip around the Breton capital to point out potholes, Berlin cushions, damaged pavements that they consider accidental for motorized two-wheelers.

Against technical control

According to the FFMC, more than 20,000 motorcyclists had already demonstrated on April 10, asking the State to derogate from a European directive of 2014. This text provides for the establishment of a technical control for them. two- and three-wheel motor vehicles with a cylinder capacity greater than 125 cm3 from January 1, 2022, to combat accidents and pollution. The government estimated that it was not possible to implement this measure on January 1.

We are against this technical control, the bikers are responsible and pay enough attention to their machine! For us, technical control is a scam, […] because there is a financial windfall to be made, given the number of motorcycles that there are in France, for the technical control centers, explained to AFP Hugues-Éric Debisschop, delegate of the FBF.

In addition, we ask to be able to ride on motorcycles that resemble us. That is to say, personalized, customized motorcycles. We want a legal framework to surround the modified motorcycle, he added.

According to the discussions that we can have with the government, the French State says it is opposed to the establishment of technical control. […] and we are working together with the State to defend the case at European level […] but the threat remains there, added Philippe Maussion, coordinator of the FFMC in the North.
