The king mushroom is protected by law. There is a huge fine for collection

Mushroom picking is one of the most widespread hobbies and almost everyone goes to the forest at least once a year. Boletus mushrooms are among the most valuable mushrooms. However, some species are poisonous and others are critically endangered. There are drastic fines for collecting them. Which mushrooms should definitely stay in the forest?

The mushroom season is in full swing, although at the moment it has been dampened a bit by the sweltering heat. Not only mushroom pickers and mycologists are waiting for the rain. Because where there is no water, there are no mushrooms.

Every year, the forest attracts not only experienced mushroom pickers, but also “non-experts” who have huge problems distinguishing bedbugs from toadstools. However, so-called colored mushrooms also cause big problems for many people. Many people cannot tell the difference rolling stock from the blacksmith. Fortunately, both species are edible mushrooms, but they need to be properly cooked, as they contain toxins in their raw state.

Watch out for colored mushrooms

Red mushroom or mushroom satan they are wonderful mushrooms that delight the human eye with their beauty, but they do not belong in the kitchen. And the basket certainly does not even include protected species!

Act 114/1992 Coll. include the king mushroom (Boletus regius), Fechtner’s mushroom (Boletus fechtneri) or Moravian mushroom (Xerocomus moravicus). For natural persons, the fine for collection is 100 thousand crowns and for legal entities up to 2 million,” spokeswoman for the Ministry of the Environment, Dominika Pospíšilová, said for the website Prima Zenya, adding that the seriousness of the offense is reflected in the amount of the fine.

If someone accidentally picks up one fruiting tree, but otherwise behaves culturally in the forest, he faces a lesser punishment than individuals who will destroy the localities where these “kings” of the Czech forests grow. However, experienced mushroom pickers admit outside the camera recording that the king mushroom does not reach the same taste qualities of its unprotected colleagues…

If you are lucky and come across colorful mushrooms in the forest, do not tell your friends about the location. Photograph the king mushrooms and contact the mycology department. The worst thing you can do is post the location of the find on social media. This will bring a “horde of invaders” into the forest, the soil will be trampled, the undergrowth will be destroyed and the site will disappear.
