The KIA Bill Sets 6 Months of Birth Leave Legally So as a DPR Initiative Proposal

The House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia agreed to Maternal and Child Welfare Law (KIA) which regulates 6 months maternity leave, as a proposal from the DPR’s initiative. The decision was taken at the 26th plenary session of the V Session Year 2021-2022 today.

Monitoring detik.com, the plenary meeting was held at the Nusantara II building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday (30/6/2022). Seen present were DPR Speaker Puan Maharani, DPR Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Lodewijk F Paulus, Rachmat Gobel. The plenary session was chaired by Dasco.

Prior to the collection of decisions, all factions in the parliament convey the opinions of their respective factions. Dasco then asked the members of the Council regarding the bill’s decision.

“Dear council meeting, thus the nine factions have expressed their respective factions’ opinions and we ask the honorable council session. Can the Draft Law (RUU) on Maternal and Child Welfare be approved as a bill proposed by the DPR RI?” Dasco asked the meeting participants.

“Agreed,” replied the meeting participants.

Previously, the chairman of the DPR, Puan Maharani, had spoken about making a decision on the MCH Bill as a proposal for the DPR’s initiative to be carried out as soon as possible. Puan ensured that the bill, one of which was discussed regarding maternity leave for 6 months, would soon be ratified.

“The deliberative body (Bamus) of the DPR has agreed that the Maternal and Child Welfare Bill or the MCH Bill will be passed as a DPR initiative bill in the nearest Plenary Meeting,” said Puan in a written statement, Friday (24/6).

Puan hopes that the process of discussing the MCH Bill will run smoothly. The MCH Bill is also expected to become a legal statue in ensuring the welfare of mothers and children.
