The Judicial Branch: Administering Justice and Defending Rights in the Country

The Judicial Branch is responsible for administering justice in the countrywhich means that it is responsible for defending rights, enforcing the law and deciding what will happen to people and organizations that disobey it.

This entity is constituted by the Supreme Court of Justicethe Constitutional Courthe Council of Statehe Superior Council of the Judiciarylas Special Jurisdictions and the Attorney General’s Office.

How is the Judicial Branch composed?

According to him Ministry of Justice and Lawthe Judicial Branch is made up of the following organizations that make up the different jurisdictions:

– Ordinary Jurisdiction: The highest authority is the Supreme Court of Justice, which is responsible for offering solutions to conflicts or problems that citizens may have in criminal, labor and civil matters.

The Superior Judicial District Courts and the different courts are also part of it, whether family, civil, labor, criminal, among others.

– Administrative Litigation Jurisdiction: The Council of State is its highest institution, it is responsible for solving conflicts that arise between people and the State or between citizens and Official Entities.

Other bodies that are part of it are the Administrative Courts and the Administrative Courts.

– Constitutional Jurisdiction: Its largest institution is the Constitutional Court, which is in charge of studying guardianships to examine what may or may not become a law, in addition to ensuring that the Constitution and the human or fundamental rights of people are respected.

– Jurisdiction of Peace: The Attorney General’s Office and the Superior Council of the Judiciary are part of it, which is in charge of the government and the comprehensive administration of the Judicial Branch, in aspects such as the regulation of the law, planning, programming and execution of the budget, among others. .

– Other institutions: Sectional Councils of the Judiciary, Interinstitutional Commission of the Judicial Branch, Interinstitutional Sectional Commission, Executive Directorate of the Judicial Administration and Special Jurisdictions.

The regulation of the Judicial branch is enshrined in articles 228 to 257 of the Political Constitution.

So, how much does a lawyer linked to the Judicial Branch earn?

Because the Judicial Branch manages several entities, a lawyer can work in different positions that have different salaries, depending on the Decree 0902 of 2023 of the Constitutional Court.

In accordance with what is enshrined in the Article 2 of Decree 0902 of 2023, whoever serves as a Magistrate of the Superior Council of the Judiciary, the Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court of Justice, the Council of State and the National Commission for Judicial Discipline will have the right to a monthly remuneration of $9.148.658.

On the other hand, according to article 3 of the aforementioned decree, there is a basic monthly allowance for public servants of the Judicial Branch and Military Criminal Justicewhich depends on a salary remuneration scale that ranges from $1,160,000, in grade one, to $5,161,863, in grade 22.

You must take into account that The remuneration scale referred to in article 3 will not apply to civil servants to which article 206, paragraph 7 of Extraordinary Decree 624 of 1989, and article 13 of Decree 535 of 1987 refer.
