The Japanese market is clearly different from ours in terms of gaming preferences. It is therefore worth taking a look at what the list of the best productions according to players from the Land of the Rising Sun looks like now – at the very end of 2021.

The TV network Asahi recently conducted a huge preference survey of players to pinpoint the best game ever. In one of the largest actions of this type over 50 thousand people took part.
As you can imagine, Japanese players still do have a great fondness for the RPG genre – in particular the iconic Final Fantasy VII (place 3 on the list), Chrono Trigger (place 8) or Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride, which came second on the list. Most people voted for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, thanks to which the exclusive Nintendo hit the first place on the list of the best games in history.
Surely the people of Japan are happy they haven’t forgotten the slightly older gamessuch as Xenogears, Okami and Tactics Ogre. It is worth noting, however, that the list does not contain many new products for PS4, PS5, XOne or XSX. While the Japanese appreciated a few fresh games released on Switch (primarily Breath of the Wild and Animal Crossing: New Horizons), there were few games from recent years on the list, such as Bloodborne (slot 67) and Ghost of Tsushima (slot 66).
