The Importance of Vaccination for Respiratory Symptoms: Insights from Infectious Disease Doctor, Ricardo Teijeiro

Ricardo Teijeiro (58,065), an infectious disease doctor, indicated that the increase in respiratory symptoms (20%) is due to the time of year and the lack of vaccination.

“During this time every year we have an increase in respiratory symptoms and we have to add the pathologies that are a product of allergies and bacterial and viral infectious diseases,” Teijeiro explained to Cadena 3.

And he expanded: “It is not alarming because we are not seeing complicated conditions that require hospitalization, but we do highlight that there are many people who have a vaccine indication and have not been given the flu or Covid-19 booster.”

“For Covid-19, those over 50 years of age or those under the age of 50 who have chronic diseases should be vaccinated, that is, boosters every six months regardless of which dose they go for. Those under 50 years of age who do not have chronic diseases should do it once a year,” she explained.

Regarding the flu vaccine, it is indicated for those over 65 years of age and children from 6 months to two years of age, pregnant women and those under 55 years of age who have persistence.

To exemplify the lack of vaccination, the doctor noted: “The adult population is only 30% well vaccinated for tetanus.”

“I think everything is exhausting us a little, the social situation, Covid-19, not doing routine consultations, and the lack of risk of Covid-19 that people took it as a common disease,” he argued.
