The Importance of Digitized Vaccination Data in the Health Sector: Enhancing Access and Efficiency in Paraguay

Paraguay Implements Digital Vaccination Booklet for Children

In the digital era, the optimization of administrative processes and the efficient management of information are crucial in various sectors, including healthcare. Recognizing the importance of digitizing vaccination data, Paraguay has taken a significant step forward by introducing a digital vaccination booklet for children. This achievement has been made possible by the technicians of the information subsystem area of the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI), who aim to centralize and facilitate access to vaccine records quickly and safely.

To access this tool, follow these steps:

1. Visit the website Paraguay.gov.py and access the vaccination book record. It is necessary to have created an electronic identity. If you haven’t created one yet, complete all the required information on the same link. Once done, you will be able to access your child’s vaccination booklet.

2. If you already have an account or recently created one, log in and go to “My Documents”. In the HEALTH section, you will find the “Vaccination Book Certificate-Children” option. Click on it to automatically access your child’s vaccination booklet.

3. If the data in your child’s vaccination records is incomplete, visit a health service with the physical notebook. The health region’s responsible personnel, from any part of the country, will transcribe the records into the system, ensuring that your child’s vaccination book is complete and updated.

4. Once the document is generated, your child’s name should appear. If you have more than one child, select the one for whom you want to obtain the certificate. If you receive a message stating that data cannot be found while generating the document, it is likely because the personal records of the children are not linked to the ID number of the parents. In such cases, visit a health service and request that the data be linked. After updating, wait for 12 hours for the servers to refresh, and then repeat the previous process to obtain the digital vaccination booklet.

5. Once the data has been verified, the document will be generated and ready to be downloaded in PDF format.

The implementation of the digital vaccination booklet is a significant advancement in Paraguay’s healthcare system. Prior to this, vaccination data was dispersed in various formats and systems, making it difficult to access and track. With the introduction of the digital notebook, vaccination data is now centralized in a single place, allowing for more efficient and accurate information management.

This centralized digital vaccination registry plays a crucial role in improving public health monitoring and providing a precise vision of the population’s vaccination coverage. It enables the evaluation of the effectiveness of immunization programs and informed decision-making regarding public health policies. Furthermore, it aids in planning and optimizing expenses.

It is important to note that the nominal vaccination system, which has been available since 2016 as a pilot plan, is now the exclusive tool for recording vaccinations in all individuals from 2022 onwards. Therefore, previous vaccinations may not be available in the digital system. It is recommended to carry the physical vaccination card to ensure that all data is digitized.

Vaccines are essential for our protection, and they are reliable and free. The Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare encourages everyone to visit the vaccination centers and complete their vaccination schedules.

What are the benefits of using the digital vaccination booklet in terms of data accuracy and security compared to the physical notebook

Ssage stating that there is no record of your child’s vaccinations, it is recommended to visit a health service to verify and update the information.

5. The digital vaccination booklet provides a comprehensive record of your child’s immunizations, including the type of vaccine received, the date of administration, and any side effects that may have occurred. It allows healthcare professionals to easily track and monitor your child’s vaccination history, ensuring that they are up-to-date on their immunizations.

6. The introduction of the digital vaccination booklet not only simplifies the process of accessing and managing vaccination records but also improves data accuracy and security. With the digital platform, there is less likelihood of records being lost or damaged, making it easier to keep track of your child’s immunizations throughout their life.

7. It is important to note that the digital vaccination booklet does not replace the physical notebook provided by healthcare professionals. The physical notebook should still be kept as a backup and used during healthcare visits. The digital platform simply provides an additional means of accessing and storing your child’s vaccination records.

By implementing the digital vaccination booklet, Paraguay has shown its commitment to utilizing technology to improve healthcare services. This innovative approach not only benefits parents and healthcare professionals but also contributes to the overall health and well-being of the population.
