Dakar, June 27 (APS) – The International Energy Agency (IEA) is organizing a ministerial roundtable on the impact of Covid-19 on the energy sectors from 11:00 GMT on Tuesday, by videoconference. in Africa, learned the APS.

This meeting will bring together the ministers in charge of Energy from African countries and several member countries of the IEA, said the Senegalese ministry of the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy in a press release.

The video conference will be co-chaired by the Executive Director of the IEA, Dr. Fatih Birol, and the Senegalese Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Mouhamadou Makhtar Cissé.

Representatives of several international organizations (United Nations, IMF, World Bank) as well as several sub-regional organizations (the five (5) electricity pools of the African continent, ARA, APPO, etc.) will participate in the discussions.

The objectives of the meeting are: ” to take stock of the effects of Covid-19 and its repercussions on the energy sector in Africa; explore the vital role of energy investments in the economic recovery of Africa. ”

It will also be about “sharing views on the actions that can be taken to guarantee a priority of energy investments in Africa” ​​and “clarifying the role that the IEA and the partners of African countries can play in supporting these efforts. ”
