The Impact of Coffee and Alcohol on Dementia: New Findings and Recommendations

Two cups of coffee a day

Recent research shows that as modern people consume more coffee and tea, the incidence of dementia is decreasing. According to data released by the UK Biobank in November 2021, 365,682 respondents drank two to three cups of coffee and tea every day. people, their risk of developing dementia was reduced by 28 percent.

In the journal “Frontiers of Aging Neuroscience”, some scholars studied the Australian diet and found that coffee has a good effect (but not tea). There are many benefits to quitting drinking

Opinions expressed by academics on this very popular drink vary from month to month and even daily. The “French Institute of Health and Medical Research” published its research results in the “British Medical Journal” in 2018, and the results were confusing. Nine thousand teetotal drinkers were at a higher risk of developing dementia than moderate drinkers. Is this advising everyone to drink some alcohol? Somehow this conclusion doesn’t seem quite right. Although drinking in moderation is not physically taxing (up to twelve drinks per week), I find it hard to believe that alcohol is good for the body or definitely does not cause dementia. Basically, it’s a tiny neurotoxin that kills brain cells, but with very low toxicity.

I searched the literature from various places, and regarding the health status of light to moderate drinkers, scholars unanimously agree that it is best to quit drinking. First of all, everyone says that as long as your health allows, two drinks a day is good for your health, but researchers have found that these are all caused by “false words.”

Canadian cardiologist Christopher Labos found that in some studies that advocated drinking, subjects classified as “teeter drinkers” actually had drinking habits in the past. Some people They even had to quit drinking to save their lives, but they were all included in the control group. Chronic conditions they had previously suffered from excessive drinking, such as hepatitis and gastrointestinal problems, only worsened when they became subjects. That’s why researchers determined that drinking a little alcohol is healthier than not drinking at all.

In order to prevent them from talking too much, researchers asked “teto-drinking” subjects about their previous drinking habits. In other words, the members of the control group must be people who have never drank alcohol since childhood. “When you look at the flaws in these experiments, you find that the health benefits of alcohol are minimal or non-existent,” Labers said. “Overall, it’s really doing more harm than good to our society.”

As for the effects of alcohol on memory, the focus of this book, the research is unclear. As I mentioned before, patients with dementia must have poor memory; so as long as you ensure that your memory is normal, you can confirm that you do not have dementia. There is currently no evidence that alcohol damages memory while leaving other cognitive abilities unimpaired. Recently, French researchers surveyed more than a million cases of dementia and found that alcohol was the most serious risk factor, concluding: “It is more dangerous and more likely to cause dementia than high blood pressure and diabetes.”
