The IMF meeting on the fate of Kristalina Georgieva has been postponed

The Bulgarian has support from Europe and Africa, but the United States and Japan want her to withdraw

The International Monetary Fund has postponed its session, at which it must rule on the actions of Kristalina Georgieva, Nova TV reported.

The IMF board was scheduled to meet at 5 pm local time, but the meeting was postponed so that member states could discuss the case with their own governments.

The board makes a decision by consensus, but may also decide to hold a vote if there is disagreement among shareholders.

“Georgieva will be acquitted of the allegations, given the strong support she receives from countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa,” a Reuters source said.

Over the weekend, the board discussed with Georgieva and the American law firm WilmerHale the issue of the alleged pressure exerted by the Bulgarian woman on World Bank employees to change data in favor of China. According to Reuters sources, who requested anonymity, the charges against Georgieva will be dropped.

On Friday, France and other European countries supported the Bulgarian. The United States and other countries have asked for more time to study the different versions of the case, reminds Reuters.

The Financial Times reported yesterday that the United States and Japan want the IMF’s managing director to step down. The authoritative British business publication does not cite specific sources. The US Treasury Department, which controls about one-sixth of the IMF’s stock, declined to comment on the publication. So far, there has been no reaction from the Japanese embassy in Washington.
