The store reopened at 10:00 on Tuesday, for the first time since March 17. Then the Swedish furniture store decided to close the doors with immediate effect because of the spread of the corona virus.

In recent weeks it was possible to make online purchases at IKEA and collect them from the store.

No fun shopping

The store has taken security measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Store manager Nanda de Bruin got up at 5 a.m. on Tuesday morning to ensure that everything was properly arranged. “It is not the intention to fun shop,” she says.

At the entrance and exit there are employees who count how many people are inside. That may therefore be a maximum of 709. On a busy day that would normally be several thousand under normal circumstances.

People are also allowed to shop with a maximum of two people at the same time. Fences have been placed in front of the entrance and a line has been drawn every 1.5 meters behind which customers have to wait. As a result, there is soon a long line, but nevertheless it continues pretty well on Tuesday.

Plexiglass screens

Inside there are stickers that point people to the one and a half meter rule. There are also employees who check whether customers keep to the agreements. Plexiglas screens have also been placed at the checkouts and customer service.

IKEA’s restaurants will remain closed. The Småland playgrounds are also still closed.
