The IES Ítaca de Tomares and the Bar La Gélida de Gerena help La Palma | Radio Sevilla | Present

The solidarity of the Sevillians with the victims of the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Canary island of La Palma has not been long in coming and we have seen good proof of this this Monday in the broadcast of our program Today for Today Seville, who directs and presents Solomon Hachuel.

The IES Ítaca de Tomares will collect food and essential merchandise this Tuesday at its facilities, at number 12, Cristina Hoyos street, while the Bar La Gélida de Gerena has had the happy idea of including in its tapas menu the typical ‘wrinkled potatoes’ of the island’s gastronomy in order to raise funds for the families affected by the tragedy.

We have discussed these initiatives in our program with Carolina Clavijo, director of IES Ithaca; Javier Garcia, director of expansion and development of the subsidiary Boluda Lines; Sandra Brito, psychologist of the Red Cross emergency response team; and Benito Nogales, one of the partners of the Cervecería La Gélida de Gerena.

If you missed it live, here you can listen again to such a solidarity radio moment …

At the IES Ítaca they began to prepare the solidarity initiative last Thursday, when a former teacher at the center proposed a collection of food and basic necessities to send them to La Palma. The Institute’s Cooperation Department was launched and the students are in charge of everything that has to do with the collection in the center, where there will be a container of Boluda, an entity that not only puts the container but sends it to the Islands The Canary Islands from the port of Cádiz. The collection will take place this Tuesday between 08:30 and 16:30 in the same educational center.

On the other hand, since the weekend they have been offering this tapa of ‘wrinkled potatoes’ at Bar La Gélida, a dish that they were originally going to take out at the Gerena Tourism Conference that will be held in a couple of weeks, although seen the need of the people on La Palma is already being offered in order to raise more.

The Gerena Business Association has launched the idea that the hotel establishments of the town include in their menu the well-known ‘wrinkled potatoes’, typical tapa of the Canary Islands, accompanied by green mojo or mojón picón, depending on the taste of each one.

These covers will not have a price, but the customer who requests them will leave the amount they consider appropriate in a piggy bank or through Bizum. All that is collected will go to help those affected by the volcanic eruption on the island of La Palma.

The hoteliers of Gerena hope that this initiative will be extended to other locations.
