The Hottest City on Earth Breaks 51 Degrees, Like Hell

Pakistan

The city of Jacobabad in Pakistan is really hot, even in May 2022 it was awarded the title hottest city on Earth. At that time, the temperature there reached 51 degrees Celsius.

Despite being so hot, a lot of people live there. As quoted detikINET from Reuters, Saturday (2/7/2022) the number is around 200 thousand people. They were used to the extreme heat, but were still overwhelmed.

Muhammad Akbar is one of them, this 40-year-old man is selling beans along the street. He had been sick from the brunt of the heat three times in his life. Later, he assessed that the condition was getting worse, especially that water was getting scarcer.

“There used to be lots of trees throughout the city and there was no water scarcity. Now, there are no trees or water, the heat is getting unbearable. I’m afraid this heat will kill us in the years to come,” he said.

Akbar himself had no other choice to make a living. He has to work every day for about 12 to 14 hours, earning around IDR 40 thousand a day.

The heat wave some time ago indeed hit Pakistan and India. This year for the first time, the heat has started to sting since March, from the usual May, and will continue through August.

Casualties also appeared. On May 14 when the temperature in Jacobabad reached 51 degrees, a young mother named Nazia suddenly collapsed while cooking lunch for her niece who had come. He was rushed to the hospital but could not be helped and died.

Climate change is thought to be behind the heat waves that are increasingly hitting and making residents in hottest city it suffers. “We fear that in a few years, Jacobabad will no longer be inhabited by humans and animals,” said local social activist Mohammad Shaaban.
