Artists and many of their artworks were not recognized during their lifetime. However, the recognition they receive after their death is sometimes enormous. This is how artist Ron Gittins hid his artwork from others for years. He hid his artwork from others for 33 years. He didn’t even show them to his family members. No one passing by would know that there was a large collection of priceless works of art. Ron Gittins lived here for four decades. Even his closest relatives didn’t know what was inside this house until he died at the age of 79. After the house was put up for sale in 2022, a campaign group called Saving Ron’s Place forward to save it.
The group also includes the famous English musician Jarvis Cocker. After Gittins’ death, her older sister Pat Williams was the first to arrive at the flat. What awaited them were amazing works of art. For years, Gittins didn’t even show the house to family members. So they didn’t know what was inside.
Wall paintings of some historical events, amazing concrete statues of a lion, a bull and a temple were all found inside this house. The house is now in the care of Pat’s daughter, Jan Williams, who is also an artist. A group of art lovers and artists have launched a campaign to preserve his magnificent artwork.
