The Health Bureau said that DHF cases in Asmat Regency have risen again

Jayapura (ANTARA) – Cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF) in Asmat district, Papua province have increased again after three more cases, so that cumulatively there are now 252 people.

Asmat District Health Service (Dinkes) Surveillance and Vaccination Section Chief Darsono, when contacted by Jayapura on Wednesday, acknowledged that there has been an increase in dengue cases in Asmat district, so that cumulatively now there are 252 people, three of whom have died.

He admitted that it was really difficult to eradicate the spread of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which causes DHF due to the difficulties in obtaining clean water.

“So far, for clean water needs, people use more rainwater by storing it in tanks or buckets or basins that don’t have covers, so it becomes a breeding ground for the Aedes aegypti mosquito,” he said.

He explained that currently eight people have been diagnosed with DHF, but none of them are being treated in hospitals or puskesmas and their condition is stable.

When asked about the Health Bureau’s efforts to address DHF, he admitted that health workers had been distributing the abbot drugs to the community, which they hoped would be placed in water tanks.

In addition, healthcare professionals also actively fumigate or spray homes and areas where residents are affected by DHF.

“As soon as there are infected residents, the area around their home will immediately be fumigated or fogged,” Darsono said.
