MAGENTA — Celery is a type of green leafy vegetable that has a myriad of benefits. Apart from being used as a food flavoring, celery has a scientific name Celery can also be used as medicine.

Celery was first introduced to Indonesia by the Dutch during their colonial period. At that time, celery leaves were often used as a flavoring for soups or the leaves were eaten as fresh vegetables.

According to the book Toga: Family Medicinal Plants written by Fitri Gendrowati, celery is rich in vitamins, especially vitamin A, it also contains other important substances needed by the body, such as iron, potassium, calcium, and minerals.

The vitamin content in celery will remain intact 80 percent even though it has been cooked, in contrast to other vegetables which almost lose their vitamin content when cooked.

Celery is also very good for consumption by someone who is active, including sports activists because the nutrients in celery are able to replace the body’s electrolyte fluids that are lost during activities.
