Dr. Ashraf Hatem, head of the Health Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives and a member of the Supreme Committee for Respiratory Viruses, affiliated to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, announced the launch of the first anti-viral drug used in the treatment of the new Corona virus in pharmacies for patients infected with the emerging coronavirus (Covid-19) from the «isolated cases. “Hatem” said, in press statements, on Thursday, that this drug includes the active ingredient “Faviravir” and was introduced in pharmacies, which would provide it faster for cases that need it, instead of going to hospitals, and waiting until they can obtain it, appreciating the approval of the responsible authorities in the state on This orientation.

Dr. Adel Khattab, Professor of Chest Diseases at Ain Shams University and a member of the Supreme Committee for Respiratory Viruses at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, explained that the medicine that was offered in pharmacies is the equivalent of the Russian and Japanese pharmacists to treat the emerging corona, and who have proven positive results in treating cases of corona from simple cases « ”And“ medium ”abroad, and also in Egypt when it was dispensed for cases infected with“ the virus ”.

“Khattab” added that the drug is available in the form of “tablets” and not injections like the treatment of “Ramdisiver Eva Pharma”, and until now it has been approved for use only in hospitals, pointing out that the drug appeared in 2014 as a treatment for influenza in Japan, and was sent to more than 40 countries for clinical testing against Corona. “Covid-19”, and more than one country has adopted it in its treatment protocols, including Egypt, India, China, Russia, in addition to Japan.

For his part, Dr. Riyad Armanios, Vice President of the Chamber of Drug Industry, confirmed that the producing company is keen to manufacture any quantities needed by the local market of this drug, pointing out that the drug works to stop and inhibit the reproduction of the virus inside cells infected with these viruses, adding: «It is a drug with Efficiency in facing severe colds, and a number of respiratory viral diseases, and is also used in the treatment of the emerging corona virus (Covid-19). ”

“Armanius” expressed his appreciation for the approval of the Egyptian Drug Authority and the concerned authorities to offer the drug in pharmacies, to be closer to the patient.
