The scandal was unleashed by Sinead Farrelly and Meleana Shim on The Athletic portal about repeated sexual offenses by their former coach Paul Riley. The North Carolina Courage Club fired the English coach, who led the team to titles in 2018 and 2019. The American Union revoked his license. Riley, who has coached women’s clubs in the United States since 2010, denied the allegations.
According to the German agency SID, Riley is already the third coach this year to be fired due to inappropriate behavior.
