Armedians made an unsuccessful attempt to kill the Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry at the Weekend Event on the occasion of the independence of the Caribbean, the Prime Minister Cited by Reuters, BTA reported.
The office said yesterday that “bandits and terrorists” tried to shoot Henry on Saturday during a ceremony in the city of Gonaiv to mark the 218th anniversary of Haiti’s independence.
Videos were circulated on social media showing Henry and his entourage rushing to their cars after an armed group opened fire in front of a church in Gonaiv.
Local media reported that one person was killed and two were injured in the shooting.
The office said arrest warrants had been issued for suspects who opened fire on the prime minister’s convoy.
The attack has again raised concerns about the safety of officials in the Caribbean country, which has been gripped by political chaos since the assassination of President Jonel Moise in July last year.
