The Hague names street after Guusje Nederhorst | Stars

entertainment">Nederhorst lived in The Hague, died there and is buried there. She was married to Hagenaar Dinand Woesthoff, singer of the band Kane. With his wife Lucy he now runs Dromenjager, the media company behind Woezel and Pip. In a response, they say: “We are very happy and proud that the municipality of The Hague has decided to dedicate a street name to Guusje. It has been a long-cherished dream of ours to honor Guusje with a permanent location in The Hague, the city where she enjoyed living and where she conceived Woezel and Pip in 2002.”

entertainment">They also say that they like to come and have a look in the street. “We are looking forward to visiting the Guusje Nederhorststraat with our family and the entire team of Woezel and Pip. And of course we wish the future residents of the street a lot of happiness and inspiration. In any case, it will not be due to the street name.”

entertainment">The Guusje Nederhorststraat is located in a new neighborhood that is currently being built on the outskirts of The Hague, on the border with Wateringen. All streets in the neighborhood are given the names of writers. In addition to Guusje Nederhorst, these are Anne Frank, M. Vasalis, Helga Ruebsamen, Kartini, Ida Simons, Ellen Warmond and Laura Wemet-Paskel. “Our starting point is: if there is equal suitability, we prefer a female name for a new name of a street. It’s just time for that,” says The Hague alderman Hilbert Bredemeijer (CDA; outdoor space). Bredemeijer says about Anne Frankstraat: “That fits the profile of The Hague: the city of peace and justice.”
