The Growing Military Cooperation Between North Korea, Russia, China, and Iran Raises Concerns of Simultaneous Conflicts with Nuclear Weapons, Warns US General

The growing military cooperation between North Korea, Russia, China and Iran raises the possibility of “simultaneous conflicts with multiple adversaries with nuclear weapons”, a high-ranking American general warned today, quoted by the Associated Press, writes BTA.

General Anthony Cotton, who heads the US Strategic Command, said this during a meeting of the Senate Armed Services Committee, stressing that his command will “always” be “ready to fight”.

“We are facing not one, but two equal nuclear powers – the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China. This reality, combined with North Korea’s missile development, Iran’s nuclear ambitions and the growing relationship between these countries, further complicates our strategic calculations.” he pointed out.

“It also raises the possibility of simultaneous conflicts with multiple adversaries with nuclear weapons,” he added.

Despite concerns about increasing military ties between North Korea, Russia, China and Iran, General Cotton expressed confidence in his command’s readiness.

“The men and women who represent the US Strategic Command are ready to defend … if strategic deterrence fails tonight, we are ready today,” he said.

At the same commission meeting, Gen. Stephen Whiting, commander of the US Space Command, said North Korea does not have “a space-capable military today” but has demonstrated an electromagnetic warfare capability that could have an impact against US space systems.

“We also monitor their space systems very closely,” Whiting said, referring to North Korea’s launch of a satellite last year.
