On the eve of the New Year holidays, the Grodno Zoo chose a living symbol of 2024 – an iguana named Asya. They explained why and showed a video of a gentle lizard.
According to zoo staff, in the year of the Green Wood Dragon, the iguana Asya “is more suitable than anyone else for the role of this unusual mythical creature.”
However, they noted that she was chosen not only because of her external resemblance. The main criterion was her character.
“Despite her stern appearance, Asya has a peaceful disposition. She is kind, affectionate and very friendly by nature,” described lizard in the Grodno Zoo.
In addition, the staff reported that the iguana Asya was born in 2012, the year of the Black Water Dragon. She has lived in the Grodno Zoo since 2020. The length of the animal is 82 cm (from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail is 82 cm).
The lizard’s favorite delicacies are: Chinese cabbage, pumpkin and banana.
By the way, in 2011 the living symbol was an iguana named Shurik.
The Grodno Zoo also published a video that shows how calm and affectionate Asya is.
Telegraf previously wrote that a Minsk resident shared a video on social networks of how unusually a park was decorated for the New Year in one of the city’s districts. Utility services carefully cleared the path running through the park, installed luminous figures of animals – hares, owls, deer – along the sides of the alley, and even decorated Christmas trees with light garlands. However, not all commentators shared the delight of the author of the video.
