The Greek state will cover 80% of the increased electricity bills

Kyriakos Mitsotakis

80% of the upcoming increase in electricity tariffs will be covered by the state, Greek government spokesman Yiannis Economiou said in an interview with Sky TV on Sunday. He spoke about the measures announced by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the International Fair in Thessaloniki, ANA-MPA reported.

The subsidy affects all tariffs of the Public Electric Corporation (OEC), Economiou explained, noting that private energy companies will be forced to follow them because otherwise they will lose customers.

“And of course, this will also cause competition among companies, so in many cases the absorption of price increases can be much greater,” he added.

Yiannis Economiou said the package of measures exceeds 3.5 billion euros and, most importantly, that taxes are being reduced and incomes are rising: “A shield is being provided for what happened and what could happen again. And of course, this gives a very important motivation to the new generation to become a protagonist again through education, work, use of technology, generally for living in a changing country. “
