JAKARTA, iNews.id – Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Coordinating Minister for PMK) Muhadjir Effendy say tuberculosis disease or tuberculosis not just a health problem. TBC is considered to have a significant impact on the productivity of Indonesia’s human resources.
In the 2020 WHO Global TB Report, Indonesia has a burden of 845,000 people who fell ill due to tuberculosis. With a death rate of 98,000 people or the equivalent of 11 deaths per hour, which is the third rank after India and China.
“This shows that TB has a significant effect on the productivity of the Indonesian population,” Muhadjir said in commemoration of World Tuberculosis Day 2021 organized by the Ministry of Health virtually on Wednesday (24/3/2021).
It is known, as many as 75 percent of TB cases occur at productive age (15-54 years), and 8.2 percent infect children aged less than 15 years. People who suffer from drug-resistant TB or Multi Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) will lose 38 percent to 70 percent of their income. If calculated, the impact of economic losses due to tuberculosis reaches Rp136.7 billion per year.
