The Government of Indonesia Continues to Monitor Monkeypox’s Development

The government continues to follow and monitor the development of monkeypox disease (monkeypox) which has spread in many countries including countries in the Asian region.

“Although there have been no confirmed cases of monkeypox transmission in Indonesia, the government continues to monitor the development of this disease intensively,” said Agus Suprapto, Deputy for Coordination of Health Quality Improvement and Population Development, Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK).

“The surveillance system has been activated at all entrances to Indonesian territory, the Port Health Office continues to check every traveler who comes from countries with cases of monkeypox transmission,” he said.

In addition, laboratory facilities have also been prepared to carry out epidemiological investigations of monkeypox, including conducting examinations to detect the virus that causes the disease.

“In addition, the government has also prepared other anticipatory steps to respond to the development of monkeypox,” he said.

Agus also said that the government would conduct massive socialization and education regarding monkeypox, in order to increase public understanding and awareness.

“Socialization and education about this disease to the public must continue to be intensified, so that the public can also find out about monkeypox, how to prevent it, how to transmit it and how to handle it,” he said.

In addition, Agus also added that the government was very concerned about the input from Bambang Soesatyo, the Chairman of the MPR RI, who encouraged him to immediately form a task force (Satgas) to handle cases of infection. monkeypox.

“The input from the Chair of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly who encourages the government to immediately form a task force to deal with monkeypox cases is very much considered, the development of epidemiology and case escalation. monkeypox also continues to be observed and monitored,” he said.

Previously, Bambang Soesatyo, Chairman of the MPR RI said that the government needed to immediately form a Task Force to handle cases monkeypox identified in some of these countries.
