Helene Marie Fossesholm won the afternoon prologue and thus started with a lead of just over five seconds. But she was chased by a bunch of top skiers. Therese Johaug, Ragnhild Haga, Tiril Udnes Weng and Heidi Weng, among others, helped each other to catch up.
– I had a pack of wolves after me and I felt like a sheep that must not be eaten, says Fossesholm.
– I could never rest and I tried not to do that either.
It was very close that Fossesholm would not hold out, but she eventually won the 6.3 kilometer long race with half a second ahead of Tiril Udnes Weng. Third came Ragnhild Haga.
Therese Johaug was not enough in the sprint and finished seventh.
– I am very impressed that she managed to keep her hatch. She is the cross-country skier of the future, she says and continues:
– I’m really happy with my race. I’ve been a little sick so it’s been a few days on the couch.
On the men’s side, it was Simen Hegstad Krüger who won in the summer heat.
