The French love to live in the simplest way: 54% of them have already tried naturism during their holidays. This proportion places them at the top of the European populations most adept at nudism, ahead of the Spaniards (47%) and the Germans (41%). What drives them to undress? The desire to wear a full tan, above all, but also the desire to reconnect with nature and the desire to accept one’s body*.

Naturism is not just about nudism
Motivations which, it is still necessary to hammer it, fundamentally distinguish naturism from licentiousness, of which “the followers are in a problem of visual and tactile excitation”, specified the sexologist Mireille Bonnierbale at Version Femina. Far removed from these erotic territories, naturists advocate acceptance of the body, a return to basics and harmony with nature.
Because “Nudism is not just about undressing,” reaffirms Viviane Tiar, president of the French Federation of Naturism (FFN). It’s a real philosophy of life, which involves, among other things, the practice of nudity”.
It is forbidden to be naked in public, except in areas specially designed for this purpose
Be careful however, this nudity “in a place accessible to the public gaze” is considered by law as a “sexual exhibition imposed on the sight of others” (article 222-32 of the Civil Code)… unless waived. Appearing in principle on the list of activities prohibited at the beach, nudism can however be practiced in private places or “specially equipped for this purpose”, as specified in a circular of May 14, 1993.
Good news, France is full of beaches with areas of this type. Before transforming into “non-textile”, however, the panels that announce and delimit them are scrupulously checked.
